App-based primary + secondary pain prevention in musicians: Development and implementation of a transdisciplinary innovation research concept of digitally assisted health promotion (ALLEVIATE)

The project ‘App-based primary + secondary pain prevention in musicians: Development and implementation of a transdisciplinary innovation research concept of digitally supported health promotion (ALLEVIATE)’ aims at the treatment and prevention of chronic pain in musicians with innovative digital technologies. The mHealth approach allows the active participation of participants, a high potential for individualisation and the collection of real-time and longitudinal data. Following the development of the app, two randomised intervention studies will be conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of this mHealth approach with regard to primary and secondary pain prevention.

Two HMTMH institutions are pooling their expertise for this project: the Institute of Music Physiology and Musicians' Medicine (IMMM) and the Hanover Centre for Health Communication [HC]² at the Department of Journalism and Communication Research (IJK). The two institutes of the HMTMH also co-operate with various departments of the Hannover Medical School (MHH). The cooperation project is funded by the ‘Wissenschaftsräume’ programme of the state of Lower Saxony and the VolkswagenStiftung.
