European Newspaper Markets in Comparison

[Translate to Englisch:] Europäische Pressemärkte im Vergleich

Prof. Dr. Beate Schneider
Prof. Walter J. Schütz

We invite colleagues all over Europe to participate in this project. Information in English is available here.

Even though Europe's concentration is increasingly growing, there are no comparable statistical data for the European press market. All EU and UNESCO publications, or those of publishing associations are based on different standards. Thus, they reflect the different conditions and developments nationally, as well as the specific economic situation.
The goal of this project is to develop standardized measures of capturing and classifying press articles. With partner universities in - for the time being - ten European countries, relevant criteria are being defined. The second step is to develop the basis for media statistics of media policy activities in Europe, and to document the cultural values of the press in the different countries.
