National Oral Cancer Awareness Campaign
In the project ‘Improving the early detection of tumours of the oral cavity: Formative multi-level evaluation for the concept development of a national awareness campaign’ with the University Medical Centre Schleswig-Holstein, a well-founded, structured and comprehensive awareness campaign with accompanying scientific evaluation on tumours of the oral cavity is to be developed for Germany.
Most patients only present to doctors at an advanced stage of oral cancer. This results in extensive treatment, limited quality of life and a significantly less favourable prognosis. The planned awareness campaign aims to promote successful early detection by increasing knowledge and awareness of oral cancer among the population and the professional groups involved. In the communication focused sub-project, we are conducting a formative multi-level evaluation with the older population's level of knowledge. We are also carrying out a standardised content analysis of media coverage of oral cancer and an analysis of the potential for further development of the campaign media.
