Reframing Mental Health: A new Framework for Thinking about Mental Health (completed)

The project ‘Reframing Mental Health: A New Framework for Mental Health - Pathways to Resilience in the Palatinate’ was divided into two project phases. The project was carried out in cooperation with the Pfalzklinikum's ‘Die Pfalz macht sich/dich stark - Wege zur Resilienz’ initiative and aimed to develop a scientifically sound and at the same time application-orientated communication approach that aims to initiate a new understanding of mental health on various levels as part of a systematic reframing process, i.e. to establish a new perspective on the topic.

In the first project phase ‘Framing Social Change: A Transdisciplinary Approach to Explore the Effectiveness of Using Framing Strategy for Health Promotion in Germany’ (2018-2020), communication challenges and recommendations were derived based on various empirical studies and a communication strategy was developed to change the perspective on mental health. The follow-up project ‘Social Change Through Empowerment and Participation: Development and Implementation of an Advocacy Strategy for Mental Health Promotion’ (2020-2022) built on the findings of the first project phase and focused on promoting resilience as a form of primary prevention in the context of dementia. The aim was to build on the basic research from the first project phase and the derived communication recommendations to develop, test and implement specific messages that are capable of establishing a new understanding of mental health and resilience - particularly in relation to dementia. The implementation, which was evaluated in parallel, follows a socio-ecological approach and an advocacy strategy that aims to involve the public by mobilising key actors from different contexts as multipliers. The aim is to motivate members of the public to take everyday measures to support the desired solutions.
